My short animated documentary Prosopagnosia will be screening at the Scottish Queer International Film Festival 2021 on Saturday 9 October in Glasgow. This is one of my favourite festivals and my previous film Dix Pix screened in 2019. This is also the first in person screening of Prosopagnosia.

I will also be talking at the Documentary Workshop on Sunday 9 October. Here I will present some ideas about identity in creative documentary and I will talk about making Prosopagnosia.
I have been working on a new comic that is almost complete. It’s more of a self published perzine though as it features lots of text along with comic book pages.

The title is Conversations with my Imaginary Friends and looks at voice hearing and learning to live with mental health behaviours that can impact your life.
Conversations with my Imaginary Friends is a detailed look at coping mechanisms when you live with voice hearing. Schizophrenia is a commonly misinterpreted behaviour and one that affects many people in different ways. In Conversations with my Imaginary Friends I explore my coping mechanism of writing down what the voices in my head say. The comic includes the letters and words and also shows how the intrusion of voice hearing can be mitigated in a personal and intimate way.
The Neurodivergent Film Festival took place online on July 10 2021. I had two films screening at the festival – What It Feels Like and Dix Pix. I am very pleased to say that both of these films picked up awards at the festival!!!
What it Feels Like was a winner in the Self Determination Category.

Meanwhile Dix Pix won in the Free Form Category. Dix Pix had previously been nominated and shortlisted for awards at several film festivals, but this is the first win. This is sixth award that What it Feels Like has picked up and I am so pleased that both films are still screening several years after they were completed.

I am currently part of an online exhibition curated by Shape Arts. All Bound Together is an online collection of artwork by disabled and non-disabled artists.
I have a digital and fully accessible version of my zine ‘Delay’ in the exhibition. You can read and experience it here
As well as reading the zine, you can listen to an audio described version.
I also did an interview with South London Press about the exhibition. You can read this here.

Recently I tabled at the online Queer Zest Zine Fest. It was great to take part in another online zine fest. My table is still on the website
I didn’t have any new zines for sale, but I am hoping to have something new by the end of the year and for when zine fests happen in person again.
I am taking part in Fanzineist Vienna Art Book & Zine Fair – Online Edition
I have my own page on the website with some info on my zines and comics – https://fanzineist.com/exhibition-2021/steven-fraser-do-it-theatre/
There is also a virtual exhibition at the festival with artwork and information on exhibitors. I am in Hall 5- https://fanzineist.com/ve-hall5/

I’ll be at the Hackney Comic + ZineFair 2021 (online!).
I’ll have zines and comics for sale. The online event is on from 4 – 30 September 2021 – I will post up more information on the digital event – but below is an old photo of my table at another comic fest.
For the past few months I have been working on a new short animated documentary with the Scottish Documentary Institute. The title is Prosopagnosia and will have its Premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this weekend. The trailer is below along with a synopsis.
Prosopagnosia – Trailer from Steven Fraser on Vimeo.
Synopsis – Prosopagnosia is a story of identity that uses expressive animation to investigate intimacy, communication and memory.
Prosopagnosia is face-blindness and as a means of understanding this neurodiverse behaviour, the contents of a memory box are explored. Sketchbooks, photographs and diaries are intricately unraveled to tell a unique and personal story.
